Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin during a meeting with officials of the US Embassy in Bangladesh discussed increasing the number of prestigious Fulbright scholarships for Bangladeshi students in the United States and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the education sector.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office this afternoon, according to a press release.
A delegation led by US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Eric Geelan attended the meeting. Public Diplomacy Officer Scott Hartman and Sitaram Sirin of the embassy were also present.
The meeting discussed various aspects of advancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States in the education sector.
The discussions focused on how opportunities for Fulbright scholarships for Bangladeshi students could be increased each year. The issue of ensuring more scholarships for government officials was also given importance.
The meeting also discussed how the United States could contribute to expanding teacher training and student and teacher exchange programmes, as well as promoting language education and skills development in Bangladesh.
The two sides discussed providing scholarships for students to conduct research that could contribute to solving various local problems in areas including health, agriculture, urbanisation, industry, education, infrastructure development and technology.
They also discussed overall improvement in the quality of education, strengthening institutional communication, and ways to more extensively engage Bangladeshi students studying in the United States and alumni in the country’s development activities.
