The Special Committee on Constitution Amendment of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will invite people from various sections and professions of the society in phases to discuss issues related to constitutional amendments.
The committee will invite constitutional experts, women leaders, academics, individuals and organisations associated with the July Mass Uprising, those involved in drafting the July National Charter, the Supreme Court judges and lawyers, teachers, working-class people and leaders from various sectors to its upcoming meetings to seek their opinions.
The information was disclosed after the fifth meeting of the committee, chaired by its chairman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad today.
Representatives of the working-class people who contributed to the July Mass Uprising and representatives of small ethnic groups and indigenous communities attended the meeting.
They placed various proposals concerning constitutional amendments before the committee.
The committee requested that any written proposals from those unable to attend the discussions be sent to the committee for consideration.
Committee members and Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, committee members Sakila Farzana, MP, and Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel, MP, attended the meeting.
At the special invitation of the committee, parliament members Dipen Dewan, Anna Minj and Madhabi Marma also participated in the meeting.
The committee said the proposals raised during its meetings on constitutional amendments, as well as those submitted to it in writing, would be included in the report prepared by the committee.
The secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and relevant officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
