Norway is contributing 10% of Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)’s allocation of USD 4 million in
flood relief aid. This contribution will support humanitarian relief efforts and go toward addressing the
immediate needs of affected communities.
The flooding, which is the most severe flooding the area has seen in three decades, has submerged
many hectares of land and displaced thousands of people. The flood has caused extensive damage, and
destroyed roads, bridges, and culverts, disrupting key transportation links. Bangladeshi authorities and
development partners are now focusing on rehabilitation of affected areas and prevention of the spread
of waterborne diseases, a common challenge in the aftermath of such disasters.
