Staff Correspondent
Netherlands Ambassador Irma van Dueren paid a courtesy visit recently to Agriculture Minister Dr.
Abdus Shahid, in his office. Both of them recognised the importance of collaboration in the field of
agriculture between the Netherlands and Bangladesh.
The Ambassador expressed that Netherlands has different types of cooperation with Bangladesh:
knowledge to knowledge institutions (K2K), Government to Government (G2G) and Business to Business
(B2B). A good example is the wide use of Dutch potato seeds in Bangladesh and the cooperation
between Wageningen and Dhaka Universities. The exchange includes many areas such as agricultural
research, innovation, technology transformation and challenges of climate change.
The Minister is planning to visit the Netherlands next week and will have good collaborative programs
with Wageningen University and Research (WUR) amongst others.
They also agreed to attend later this week the inauguration of the onion storage facility at Giant Agro in
Bhakuka, Mymensingh as partner the Onion Impact Cluster implemented between the embassy and
Bangladeshi partners.
