“The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays” was conferred recently by the Government of Japan
upon the four former local staff members of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh at the official residence
of Japanese Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori, according to a press release.
The conferrals are in appreciation of their great contribution to supporting the activities of Ambassador
and Embassy staff for many years.
Mr. Khurshid Alam, who worked as an office boy for more than 30 years, was awarded for his faithful
assistance to the embassy staff and playing a good role model for other young staff members. Mr.
Abdus Salam, who worked as a Clark of administration section for 28 years, was awarded as he was
responsible for the preparation of official documents such as note verbals and for the office procedures
in MOFA. Mr. Swapan Kumar Barua, who worked as a messenger, was awarded as he had been able to
perform the important task of handing over diplomatic documents to dignitaries and diplomatic corps
without trouble for more than 40 years. Mr. Thomas Philip, who worked as a residence gardener for
more than 30 years, was awarded for his contribution to careful maintaining not only the vast gardens
of the embassy but also the inside of the official residence.
At the ceremony, Ambassador IWAMA expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the four awardees for their
great contribution to supporting the activities of Ambassador and Embassy staff for many years. On April
29th, 2023, the Government of Japan decided to confer the decorations on these five former local staff
members.
