On 26 January 26 2024, the High Commission of India in Dhaka celebrated the 75th Republic Day of
India at its Chancery premises, according to press release.
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma unfurled the National Flag and read out the Address to the
President of India. Large number of Indian community members in Bangladesh joined the
celebrations, which also included a brief performance of patriotic songs.
Separately, on the evening of January 24, the High Commission of India hosted a Republic Day
reception at the Basundhara International Convention Centre in Dhaka, which saw a significant
turnout of dignitaries from Government, Parliament, Judiciary and Armed Forces of Bangladesh,
members of Diplomatic Corps as well as guests from business, academia, civil society, media and
cultural fields. Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Speaker of the
Parliament.
Indian High Commissioner in his address at the reception said that 75 years have been an
extraordinary journey for India. In this journey, Bangladesh has been a close partner and friend of
India. This friendship between the two countries will continue to grow as the shared sacrifices of 1971
Liberation War remain a constant inspiration driving the relationship forward. He affirmed that India
will stand with the people of Bangladesh in realising their vision of a stable, progressive and
prosperous nation.
Speaker extended her warm greetings on the occasion and said that India’s development like the
recent moon landing serves as an inspiration for many countries. She recalled India’s support in the
1971 Liberation War and said that Bangladesh enjoys deep rooted friendship with India wich has
reached newer heights in recent years. The program also witnessed a colourful cultural performance
by renowned Bangla Band ‘Joler Gaan’.
