To marks the World Diabetes Day (14 November),Novo Nordisk Bangladesh, headquartered in
Denmark , in collaboration with different stakeholders observed the day with Type 1 diabetic children,
under the initiative Changing Diabetes® in Children (CDiC).
The CDiC program, an initiative of Diabetic Association Bangladesh, World Diabetes Foundation, and
Novo Nordisk, started in 2009 with an integrated approach of providing free comprehensive and
sustainable healthcare to children with diabetes. The CDiC clinic at BIRDEM-2 was formally
inaugurated by Crown Prince of Denmark Frederik. As of now, over 3000 children are enrolled in this
programme.
Danish Ambassador Mr Christian Brix Møller who joined the programme and spent the day with
children fighting Type 1 diabetes, emphasised that ´with timely availability and access to insulin and
treatment, it is indeed possible to live with diabetes and yet have a long and prosperous life.´ One of
the brave young women participants of the programme shared her story and showed how this is
possible! As a young girl, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and was told it would not be
possible for her to live with this disease and accomplish much at the same time, so education should
not be spent on her. She had to face stigma and bullying in school for her condition. She later enrolled
in the CDiC health programme and continued with the treatment. She has now completed her
postgraduate studies and is about to do a PhD, achieving her dreams one step at a time! Today, she
stood tall, shared her story and encouraged other children living with Type 1 diabetes.
