Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller paid a courtesy call on Honourable Foreign Minister of
Bangladesh, Dr. Hasan Mahmud recently. He congratulated Dr. Mahmud on his appointment as
Foreign Minister and stressed that Denmark remain invested in building the bilateral relationship with
Bangladesh further – under the headline of “Partnership for sustainable growth”. In a nutshell, this
includes three key areas:
Climate change partnership: Bangladesh is showing active leadership on the global climate agenda,
making it an important partner for Denmark. As Bangladesh fights against climate vulnerability,
Denmark is keen to expand this close partnership in Climate Change both in the global COP-process as
well as supporting local adaptation programmes, especially in the remote areas of Bangladesh.
Trade and investments: Denmark is already a major trading partner for Bangladesh, and Danish
companies are increasingly eager to invest in fast-growing Bangladesh, including within
pharmaceuticals, shipping, renewable energy and food & agri. On this note, The Ambassador
appreciated the efforts taken by the Bangladesh government to improve the business environment to
make it more conducive to foreign investments and hoped this would continue.
Value-based political partnership: Ambassador Møller emphasised the common interests both
countries have in strong international cooperation and multilateral institutions, democracy, human
rights and rule of law. He expressed hope for an even stronger future partnership on the basis of
these principles.
Bangladesh is Denmark’s second largest development partner over the past 50 years and our two
nations enjoy exceptionally strong bilateral relations, that has been nurtured with growing efforts
from both sides. Both of the parties expressed satisfaction over the bilateral collaboration and
