(BSS/AFP) – The US trade deficit more than halved in April, government data showed Thursday, pulling back from a record on a plunge in imports as President Donald Trump’s global tariffs kicked in. While the White House has framed the tariffs as a means to address perceived trade imbalances, it is unclear if the narrowing is sustainable as analysts believe businesses had merely paused further imports while waiting for countries to strike deals. The world’s biggest economy logged a trade gap of $61.6 billion in the same month that Trump unveiled 10 percent levies on almost all trading partners. This…

However, investors remained wary after an extraordinary social media row between Trump and billionaire former aide Musk that saw the two trade insults and threats, and sent Wall Street into the red. Wall Street’s…

EU countries have backed a plan to allow airlines to incur longer flight delays before having to compensate passengers — a contested move intended to be offset by several new passenger rights. At present, passengers in Europe have a right to between 250 and 600 euros ($285-685) in compensation, depending on flight distance, for delays of three hours or more. But airlines complain that leaves them a hefty bill, and often leads them to cancel flights rather than run them with a long delay, due to knock-on effects on flight schedules. A majority of EU states agreed late Thursday to…
