Fifteen MPs of Australia on October 4 wrote a letter to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over the ongoing political situation in Bangladesh ahead of 12th parliamentary election.
On November 1, the Australian Prime Minister replied to the letter addressing David Shoebridge, an influential senator of the country who was one of the signatories of the letter. He expressed concern over the ongoing political situation in Bangladesh in reply of the letter.
Albanese said, “The Australian government regularly engages the government of Bangladesh on human rights and democratic principles including the need for free, fair and inclusive elections, freedom of expression, protection of the rights of minorities and judicial independence.”
“We do this directly at official and political levels and through the United Nations Human Rights Council,” he added.
