Australia would donate AUS $1 million to a charity for the flood-affected people of Bangladesh, Acting
Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nardia Simpson said.
The Australian envoy made the announcement recently as she paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser to
the interim government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna here.
During the meeting, Simpson condoled the loss of lives during the student-led revolution and said
Australia was committed to working with the interim government of Bangladesh.
They discussed various issues, including the security of the Bay of Bengal, the Rohingya crisis, human
rights, economic corporations, tax tariffs and minority issues.
The envoy said Australia is now promoting peace building, cultural, and leadership issues in the
Rohingya camps.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus thanked the country for her gesture and sought investment, enhanced trade
and other assistance of Australia.
