Prime Minister’s Adviser and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin today said the government is committed to facilitating international recognition, employment opportunities and higher education abroad for Bangladeshi architects.
He said the government would provide necessary policy and infrastructural support to help young architects showcase their talent globally and enhance the country’s image.
He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Bangladesh Arch Summit 2026’ as the chief guest at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital. The Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) organised the event.
Mahdi Amin said the policies and development plans undertaken under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership would bring significant changes to the country’s architectural and infrastructural landscape over the next five years.
He said around 1,000 architects graduate annually in Bangladesh, stressing the need to create adequate jobs at home and facilitate access to master’s and PhD programmes abroad.
He urged the IAB, University Grants Commission (UGC) and Bangladesh Accreditation Council to work together to strengthen engagement with the Canberra Accord to ensure global recognition of Bangladeshi architectural degrees.
The government is also prepared to recruit more teachers and increase funding for public universities to modernise curricula, improve studio and laboratory facilities and ensure better teacher-student ratios, he added.
IAB President Architect Professor Dr Sharif Shams Imon chaired the programme.
Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr Md Akhtar Hossain Khan, South African architect Kevin Bingham and other academics and architects also spoke.
