Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of eminent journalist Toufique Imrose Khalidi, Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com.

In a condolence message, the minister said Khalidi was a pioneer of online journalism in Bangladesh and played an important role in the development of the country’s mass media and the advancement of modern online journalism.

“The death of Toufique Imrose Khalidi is an irreparable loss to the country’s mass media,” the minister said.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Khalidi, 59, died at a hospital in London today.

He was on a personal visit to London when he suddenly fell ill after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

He was taken to St Bartholomew’s Hospital on Thursday night and was pronounced dead at 2:23pm on Friday (local time), bdnews24.com reported, quoting family members.
