Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left Dhaka for Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to undergo eye treatment in the early hours of today.

He departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with his wife on a Thai Airways flight around 2:45 am on Tuesday, BNP Media Cell member Shyrul Kabir Khan told BSS.

Khan said doctors at United Hospital in Gulshan recommended urgent retinal surgery following several medical tests.

On the advice of the doctors, an appointment was made at Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok for the treatment.

Yunus Ali, personal assistant to the BNP Secretary General, said the family has sought prayers from the people and party leaders and activists for his speedy recovery.

Mirza Fakhrul and his wife had last visited Singapore for a health check-up on April 6.
