Bangladesh Embassy in Rome observed July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity commemorating the sacrifices of the martyrs and reaffirming the country’s commitment to the ideals of democracy, justice and national progress.
The observance began with a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the July-August Mass Uprising and all democratic movements in Bangladesh.
Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out while a documentary on the July Mass Uprising, produced by the Department of Films and Publications was screened.
The programme held on Wednesday, was attended by Italian nationals, members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in Italy, representatives of social and cultural organisations, members of the print and electronic media, and embassy officials and staff, according to a press release received here today.
A discussion titled- ‘The Spirit of the July Mass Uprising and Building a Prosperous Bangladesh under the Bangladesh First Policy’ was later held with the participation of members of the Bangladeshi community in Italy.
Participants recalled the contributions of students, teachers, workers and people from all walks of life to the July-August Mass Uprising and pledged their support for the current government’s efforts to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
Addressing the programme, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Rakibul Haque paid tribute to the martyrs of the July-August Mass Uprising and all democratic movements in Bangladesh and prayed for the eternal peace of their departed souls.
He said the present government, guided by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s ‘Bangladesh First’ policy, is working in the spirit of the July Mass Uprising to build a democratic, equitable, just and people-centred Bangladesh free from discrimination.
The ambassador also highlighted the participation of Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy and other countries during the July-August Mass Uprising and expressed gratitude for their contributions.
Urging all Bangladeshis to uphold the spirit of the July Mass Uprising, he called on them to place Bangladesh’s national interests above all else and contribute from their respective positions to implementing the government’s initiatives under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership to build a just, self-reliant, democratic and humane Bangladesh.
