Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Khondker Misbah-Ul-Azim today inspected two visiting Chinese naval ships, TANG SHAN and DA QING, at Chattogram Port.
The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, senior Bangladesh Navy officials and senior officials of the Chinese Embassy were present during the inspection, said an ISPR release issued here tonight.
During the visit, the defence adviser inspected different areas of the ships and was briefed on their modern naval equipment, security arrangements and operational activities.
He also exchanged views with the commanding officers, officers and sailors of the ships on the existing friendly relations between the Bangladesh and Chinese navies, mutual trust, professional knowledge and experience sharing, and various areas of cooperation.
It said the discussions also highlighted ways to strengthen regional maritime cooperation and expand military training and naval collaboration.
The Chinese naval ships TANG SHAN, DA QING and TAI HU arrived at Chattogram Port on September 17 on a five-day goodwill visit to Bangladesh.
The visit has created opportunities for professional knowledge and experience sharing between the two navies.
Such visits are expected to contribute to expanding cooperation in joint training, naval security, addressing maritime challenges and other professional fields.
The visiting Chinese naval ships are also scheduled to participate in a joint Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the Bangladesh Navy while departing Bangladesh’s waters, the ISPR added.
