Swiss Ambassador Reto Renggli had a constructive meeting recently with Agriculture Minister, Dr. Md.
Abdus Shahid, MP. They discussed the current challenges and opportunities in Bangladesh’s agriculture
sector, including the impact of climate change and the emphasis on mechanization. Switzerland has
been an effective and reliable development partner of Bangladesh for many years, introducing new
ideas and innovative solutions to the agriculture sector. To provide farmers with a safety net against
different vulnerabilities, Switzerland is in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture and other public
and private stakeholders to further implement a micro insurance programme. This will not only provide
protection but will also support the government’s “Smart Agriculture” vision.
