Swiss Ambassador Reto Renggli addressed to the grassroot women leaders recently at the National
Aparajita Conference. The recent National Aparajita Conference, which was attended by the Speaker of
Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury along with other Members of Parliament and prominent figures
from civil society, highlighted the remarkable goals and accomplishments of these women in local
leadership.
Switzerland's impactful partnership with Bangladesh focuses on promoting women’s economic, social
and political empowerment through the transformative Aparajita project since 2011.
In its latest phase, Swiss support 9,000 grassroots women leaders known as Aparajitas, driving equal
participation and representation in governance across Bangladesh. Implemented by Helvetas
Bangladesh in collaboration with local NGOs, this project will conclude in June 2024.
