Dr. Tone Bleie, Professor of the University of Tromsø, Norway presented her latest book ‘’at the Norwegian Ambassador Espen Rikter-Svendsen’s residence recently.
The Scandinavian–Santal–Boro– Bengali legacy is likened to a magnificent tapestry. A New Testament
tells the century long history of Scandinavian missionaries with the Santal communities of this
subcontinent; their economic and legal rights and social history as well as their influence on the local
communities.
The presentation was followed by commentaries and observations from experts and academics as well
as questions from the floor. Many aspects were raised which led to engaging discussions and animated
exchanges. Apparently, professor Bleie's book has already had an impact in Bangladesh.
The book is available online (as e-book). Several participants suggested it should be translated into
Bangla as well as other regional languages.
