A total of 28,965 people have received legal assistance through the Supreme Court’s Legal Aid, a service provided by the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).
A report recently published on NLASO’s official website revealed this.
The report, which outlines legal assistance provided from 2009 to April 2025, highlights the details of the legal aid services provided by NLASO.
Initially, legal aid services were made available only at the district level. Later, this service was launched in the Supreme Court, Workers’ Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and prisons across the country.
Of the total beneficiaries, 25,704 received legal advice, while legal assistance was provided for 3,261 cases. Notably, 2,086 of these cases were successfully settled, the report stated.
Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque of the High Court Division currently serves as the Chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee.
The legal aid services are provided free of charge under he Legal Aid Services Act, with the objective of ensuring justice for the financially disadvantaged and underprivileged population.
The National Legal Aid Organization operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
