The Khulna City unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a six-day programme marking the 45th death anniversary of its founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, the proclaimer of independence and pioneer of multi-party democracy.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting held at the party office here this evening.

As part of the programme, black badges will be worn, black flags hoisted and party flags kept at half-mast on May 30. A doa mahfil and discussion meeting will also be held on the day. The programmes will continue until June 4.

The observances also include special prayers at different religious institutions, food distribution among orphanages, essay and quiz competitions, documentary screenings, cleanliness drives, tree plantation campaigns, blood donation drives, free medical camps and cultural events.

The meeting was presided over by Khulna City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona.
