Japanese Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori visited recently the camp in Cox’s Bazar with Ms. Sahel Rose, a
Japanese actress who was born in Iran, orphaned, and then was adopted, and later moved to Japan.
Approximately 1 million Rohingya Refugees reside in the camps.
Ambassador IWAMA visited an E-voucher Outlet, a Livelihoods Skills Development Training & Production
Centre, and a Learning Centre in Kutupalong and Camp 4.
Since the large influx in August 2017, Japan has contributed over 220 million USD to various
interventions in Cox's Bazar as well as in Bhasan Char through international organizations and NGOs.
These assistances included food assistance, healthcare, WASH, shelter, protection, and gender
mainstreaming.
Witnessing the ongoing activities in the field, Ambassador IWAMA said, "This is my fifth visit to the
Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, and I appreciate ISCG, WFP, UNHCR and UNICEF who arranged this visit. It
was great that Ms. Sahel Rose also visited the camps and I hope she will communicate what she saw in
the camps to people in Japan.”.
More than six years have already passed from the crisis, it is essential to keep the attention of the global
community, while multiple emergencies have been taking place in different parts of the world. Japan
will continue to work toward the resolution of the Rohingya issue.
