The full text of the High Court (HC) verdict
quashing the proceedings of eight cases filed against BNP Chairperson and
former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been published.
The text of these verdicts has been published on the Supreme Court website.
On October 30 last year, a High Court Division Bench comprising Justice AKM
Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain granted the rule (absolute) and
gave the verdict quashing the cases.
Lawyers including senior lawyer Zainul Abedin, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin
Khokon, Barrister Kaiser Kamal and Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal appeared
for Begum Khaleda Zia in the High Court while Deputy Attorney General Md
Jasim Sarkar and Russell Ahmed stood for the state.
The cases were filed on January 29, February 4, February 20, March 1 and
March 3 in 2015 with Darus Salam Police Station and on January 24 and January
23 in 2015 at Jatrabari Police Station. Later, charge sheets were filed in
these cases.
In this situation, Begum Khaleda Zia separately pleaded to the High Court in
2017 to cancel the proceedings of the cases. At that time, the High Court
issued a rule and stayed the proceedings of the cases. After the final
hearing, the High Court granted the rule and gave the verdict.
