Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal today expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Acting President and former Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.
In a condolence message issued today, the Deputy Speaker prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his profound sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was born on December 1, 1931, in Nayabari village under Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh district. He passed away at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area at 4:19 am today. He was 94, said a press release of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
The release added that Sircar obtained his MA, LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka. In 1961, he went to the United Kingdom for higher studies and earned the degree of Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London.
After returning home, he joined the legal profession and established himself as a renowned constitutional, civil and criminal law expert at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
He served as Speaker of the Eighth Jatiya Sangsad from October 28, 2001, to January 25, 2009.
During his distinguished political career, Sircar served in the cabinets of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
At different times, he held the portfolios of State Minister for Housing and Public Works, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, State Minister for Land, Minister for Education, and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
