The Shanto Mariam-Honghe Confucius Classroom was officially unveiled in Dhaka recently, with a
ceremony attended by over 100 individuals. Among the distinguished guests were H.E. Yao Wen,
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh; Dr. Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Foreign Secretary of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh; Yue Liwen, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy; Prof. Hong
Bo, Chairman of Honhhe University Council; Prof. Mustafizul Hoque, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology; Prof. Md Shaa-e-Alam, Vice-Chancellor
of SMUCT; as well as SMUCT faculty and individuals from Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh and the
overseas Chinese community.
Established collaboratively by Honghe University in China and Shanto Mariam University of Creative
Technology in Bangladesh in April 2021, the Shanto Mariam-Honghe Confucius Classroom has grown
to encompass more than 400 registered students. These students have demonstrated commendable
achievements, particularly in the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign
College Students.
