Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former Prime Minister and Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message, Supradip Chakma said Begum Khaleda Zia was a three-time elected prime minister of Bangladesh.

“Her role in the country’s transition to parliamentary democracy and national development will be remembered. In her death, the country lost an experienced politician,” he said.

Supradip Chakma prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family and political well-wishers.

Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, died this morning at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city.
