The government has decided to observe state mourning in Bangladesh today following the death of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Tuesday in this regard.

According to the notification, the national flag will be kept at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, government and private buildings across the country, as well as at all Bangladeshi missions abroad.

The notification said Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, one of the architects of modern Qatar and a true friend of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi expatriates, passed away on July 12 this year.

As part of the national mourning, special doa will be offered at mosques across the country seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.

Special prayers will also be held at other religious places of worship.
