A fire that broke out in the building number 7 of the Secretariat here was brought under control this morning after around six hours.

“The fire was brought under control at 8:05am today after around six hours of frantic efforts,” Md Shajahan Shikder, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense told BSS.

The cause behind the fire has not yet been identified, he said.

Initially, eight fire engines started working to douse the flames, but later, 11 more units joined the efforts.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot two minutes after the fire broke out at 1.52am today.

Firefighter Sohanur Rahman Nayon of Tejgaon Fire Station was killed while attempting to douse the fire as a truck hit him in front of the Secretariat, Shajahan said.

Military, police, and Armed Police Battalion (APBN) assisted the fire fighting units to put out the flames.

Two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at the site after the fire broke out, said a short message from the BGB.
