Denmark and Bangladesh ecently concluded a productive strategy workshop and stakeholder
consultation on the newly established National Occupational Safety and Health Training and Research
Institute (NOHSTRI) in Dhaka.
Steffen Bohni from the Danish National Research Centre for the Working Environment and Md. Abdur
Rahim Khan, Inspector General of the Department for Inspection of Factories and Establishments
attended the workshop as guests.
Here are some of the highlights :
– There's potential for research to inform labour inspection, trainings, workplace practices, and policy-
making on occupational safety and health (OSH) in Bangladesh.
– There’s an extensive body of knowledge including inspection data, research, and training materials to
build on and further develop.
– There's a high demand for research that aims to offer practical and applicable solutions on issues
related to OSH.
– Stakeholder consultations and partnerships are essential for impactful outcomes on OSH for workers in
Bangladesh.
– There’s significant backing from the research community for NOSHTRI to serve as a knowledge hub for
improving occupational safety and health in Bangladesh.
