Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today directed the authorities concerned to quickly repair the roads of Pirojpur district and make those suitable for vehicular movement.
He issued the directives at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat here.
PM’s press wing sources said the meeting discussed the progress and problems of various development projects being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Pirojpur.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said the government is determined to keep the country’s road communication system smooth.
Especially, he said, the roads which have been neglected and in a bad condition for a long time should be brought under expeditious renovation and repair.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for taking quick initiatives to minimise the suffering of the common people in Pirojpur.
He asked the departments concerned to take immediate effective steps to this end.
The officials present at the meeting highlighted the progress and implementation status of LGED projects in Pirojpur.
They revealed that various irregularities and corruption had occurred in the implementation of these projects during the fallen Awami League government. In some projects, the then local parliamentarians and concerned officials were involved in corruption.
At the time, the Prime Minister put emphasis on ensuring transparency and accountability in implementation of development projects.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Pirojpur-2 lawmaker and State Minister for Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, Pirojpur-1 MP Masud Sayedee, Pirojpur-3 MP Ruhul Amin Dulal and Local Government Division Secretary Shahidul Hassan were present, among others, at the meeting.
