BNP Standing Committee Member Aman Ullah Aman said former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia had always stood by teachers in securing their rights and had ensured 100 percent salary and MPO enlistment facilities for them.
“Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had initiated 50 percent salary benefits for teachers, while Begum Khaleda Zia later raised it to 100 percent, he said while addressing a discussion on improving the quality of education in Dhaka-2 constituency and a reception for meritorious students at Ati Bhowal School and College ground in Keraniganj upazila today.
Speaking about improving the quality of education and enhancing teachers’ responsibilities, he said teachers should teach every student considering them as their own children.
Referring to some undesirable practices at educational institutions, he said some head teachers enroll their own children in other schools and have them sit for examinations there, which leads to lack of confidence in the quality of education at their own schools.
He urged teachers to remain aware of such issues for maintaining the educational environment and quality at schools.
He said awards were being given on a continuous basis to encourage students who secure first, second and third places at the primary, secondary and college levels.
Barrister Irfan Ibn Aman Omi, Organizing Secretary of Dhaka District BNP, and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer attended the discussion and reception as special guests.
Local secondary and primary education officers, heads of various educational institutions, teachers, students and guardians were also present.
