This year, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh is again accepting proposals from local NGOs for new
“Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects”. The deadline is the end of March, but the
Embassy is accepting applications after April.
The Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) began its operation in
Bangladesh in 1989. GGHSP is a framework that essentially supports local NGOs and local public
organizations in order to respond to various development needs in a prompt and precise manner, but
on a comparatively small scale (less than 20 million Japanese yen, in principle).
The Basic Human Needs and Human Security is the priority areas of GGHSP, such as Basic Health Care,
Primary Education, Poverty Alleviation, Water and Sanitation, Women’s Empowerment, Child Welfare,
Support for Persons with Disabilities, Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction and alike. The total sum of
these GGHSP grants extended to 217 organizations in Bangladesh amount approximately to USD 17.2
million as of March, 2024.
