Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Swapon has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of  former Acting President, former Jatiya Sangsad Speaker, veteran politician and BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.

In a condolence message issued today, he said Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar made significant contributions to the development of parliamentary democracy in the country and throughout his long political career, he performed various important responsibilities with honesty, wisdom, and dedication.

The information minister further remarked that Sircar’s demise is an irreparable loss to the nation’s political landscape.

“The nation will always remember with deep respect his role as the Speaker of the National Parliament and his contributions to the democratic progress of Bangladesh,” he added.

Swapon prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar died at a city hospital early today at the age of 94.
