(BSS)- The government has issued a notification to provide financial support under social security net for the people working in worship centers of different religions.

Under the policy workers at mosques, temples, Buddhist monasteries, churches and other religious institutions across the country will get monthly honorariums, festival allowances and skills development training.

Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a gazette of the notification on Sunday in this regard.

The policy was formulated in line with the present government’s commitment in 2026 election manifesto to provide such support to religious priests.

The notification said, people working at mosques, temples, Buddhist monasteries, churches and other religious institutions have been playing an important role in the country’s socioeconomic development, promotion of religious and moral education, development of social values and preservation of religious harmony.

Considering their contributions, the new policy has been formulated to strengthen their financial and social security, it said.

Under the policy, honorariums will be given to mosque imams, muezzins and khadims, as well as service providers at other religious institutions.
Under the policy the government will also provide festival allowances to them on the occasion of major religious festivals.

The measures are aimed at increasing the regular income and financial security of people working at religious institutions while helping improve their living standard, it said.

The government policy also includes provisions for skills development training for the concerned workers to enhance their skills and create opportunities for alternative income generation.

The government aims to further strengthen religious harmony and social values by ensuring the welfare of the people working at places of worship belong to different religious communities.
