Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today said the long-standing expectation of the people of Feni will be fulfilled with the inauguration of the Muhuri-Kahua Dam by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman tomorrow.

The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists during an inspection of the inauguration site of the “Rehabilitation of Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project under Feni District (1st Phase)” at Ghatghar in Mirzangar of Parashuram Upazila.

He said the government has approved the project at a cost of Tk 1,542 crore to reduce the suffering of the people of Feni caused by the catastrophic 2024 flood, which was unprecedented in living memory.

The dam will help control floods and waterlogging and play a positive role in agriculture, fisheries and the local economy, he said.

The minister said the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Muhuri-Kahua Dam tomorrow, distribute farmer cards and family cards, and provide honorarium allowances to imams, muezzins and priests. He will also inaugurate several other development projects.

The Muhuri-Kahua Dam is not merely an infrastructure project but an important initiative to protect the lives and property, agriculture and livelihoods of people in the greater Noakhali and Cumilla regions, he added.

The government is working to improve the quality of life of people in the region through sustainable water management, the minister said.
